Poverty Ends with Free Rice and a little Education

Play a game and fight world hunger. Yep, it's actually that simple.


FreeRice.com is a pretty amazing idea, marrying altruism, education, and marketing. The idea is simple: play a vocabulary game and for each word you get right, FreeRice will donate 20 grains of rice through the UN World Food Program to end hunger.

The creators definitely got this one right, making an addictive game that can replace a multitude of mindless other computer addictions (minesweeper anyone?) while giving back to the world. Now, how can we also make this vocabulary game available to the people who are receiving the rice? Programs like "One Laptop Per Child" are paving the way to do just that.
