Experience Pays

Experiential marketing is all about getting out into the real world and letting people interact with your products. 97 years ago, Heinz was going door-to-door spreading the brand and today we are seeing another surge in this form of marketing. Companies such as Dewalt expect to spend 50% of its 2008 marketing budget in non-traditional advertising.

Panasonic, with a 2008 budget of 90 million, expects to reserve a third of it specifically for experiential marketing.

Although experiential marketing has been a specialty of Street Attack since the beginning, in 2008 we have already noticed even more interest in these campaigns. Now, we would like to offer some free consulting services by listing a few brands we definitely think should stay away from experiential marketing in 2008.

The iPod has become a co-branding whore. Check out their new partnership with Whirlpool’s “Plug and Play Fridge,” complete with iPod dock.

The Story of Stuff

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I’m sure you’ve all picked out your New Year’s resolutions by now…exercise more, eat healthier, keep in touch with family members more often, etc. All very important things, but I truly believe this is the year of unselfish change. It’s easiest for us all to think of the world from our individual perspective, but it takes more initiative and creativity to think of the world as a whole.

When you get a chance, I highly recommend watching the opening video on this site:

I’m sure you’ve heard many of these thoughts before, but this video has carefully pieced them together from a much larger perspective. If you haven’t thought of a New Year’s resolution for yourself, hopefully this will help you pick one out…not just for yourself, but for the world.

CHASE THE RISING SUN

Three cheers to Michael and Lauren Crigler for the amazing success of their Chase the Rising Sun event. Walking into the gallery, you were immediately arrested by the visual wonderland of socially conscious art, which delves into the severed relationship between man and nature.

While the exhibit explored the realness of life, rebellion and idealism, it did so with elements of humor and sincerity. You could feel the deep sense of sorrow emanating from the tear stained Native Americans, and then smirk two steps later at a tongue in cheek image of talking banana. After one walk through, I was ready to sell all of my things and Chase the Rising Sun with them.

Veggie Bus

We’re proud to announce that we just completed the conversion of our new bus to run on 100% Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO). This is the first phase in a series of modifications that we are doing to the bus, but a pinnacle one none the less. The conversion was completed by our great friend, Aaron Stuart, from Angel City Motorworks who is known for his "axe-shredding" (i.e "guitar playing" for less rock-show inclined) in Piebald.

The next phase is to install our light projection turret. I don’t want to spill the beans too much at this point, so keep checking in for updates on this ‘soon to take over the world’ project.

Chase The Rising Sun

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Chase the Rising Sun is a social mission that sprouted from a desire to travel around the world. Lauren and Michael Crigler are giving up everything that defines their personal lives to combine their dreams of traveling with their passion for improving the quality of life of others. Driven by their intense respect for the environment and their appreciation of cultural diversity, they'll be traveling to various destinations around the world, volunteering their skills and knowledge, and lending helping hands.

Through Chasetherisingsun.com you can follow Michael and Lauren on their journey and read about their travels and experiences. You can even get involved yourself by staying updated and interested or giving a small donation to one of the groups they are working with.

Cheers to that!

Integrated marketing in Japan

Check out this great example of integrated marketing in Asia. The effort was to promote the alliance of Goo and Google. It’s a clever take on the function of search engines and brings a good concept to life in real time.

Although this campaign is from a couple years ago in Japan, it recently caught our attention and we applaud the effort.
